Price varies far more than efficiency

The PERC era is over: every panel here is N-type

All 22 of the 22 panels on this page use a current-generation N-type cell: 11 TOPCon, 9 back-contact and 2HJT. Not one still uses the older P-type PERC cell that dominated a few years ago. N-type runs cooler on a hot roof, fades more slowly, and holds up better in low light, which suits New Zealand's cloudy, coastal conditions. The warranty gap is the real differentiator

Product warranties here run from 15 to 30 years (Hyundai HeteroMax 460W leads, LONGi Hi-MO X6 Max 460W anchors the other end), a bigger real-world gap than the efficiency numbers. The product warranty covers the hardware itself; the separate performance warranty guarantees the output curve. Watch for cover that only reaches its headline figure after online registration or an accredited-installer condition: the detail modal spells out which panels do that. A long warranty is also only as good as the brand still being here to honour it, which is worth a thought on newer or restructuring makers.

Coastal NZ: salt mist and wind zones

9 of the 22panels here carry IEC 61701 salt-mist certification, which tests the panel against airborne salt corrosion. With most NZ homes within 5 km of the sea, that matters near the coast, and a blank in the column means the maker has not published the test, not that the panel fails it. Wind is the other local factor: NZS 3604 wind zones run up to Extra High on exposed and coastal sites, where the panel's rated load, its frame and the racking install all count. Solar panel FAQs

A typical 5 to 7 kW system needs about 11 to 15 of these panels, or roughly 20 to 28 square metres of roof. A higher-watt panel means fewer panels for the same system, which matters most on tight or complex roofs.
